Yesterday late in the day Dona Sarkar and the Windows Insider team announced Build 15046 for Insiders on the Fast Ring.
Multiple improvements and fixes were added including Windows Defender notifications, Cortana enhancements to the pick up where you left off feature, improved translations and more.
One fix that caught my interest immediately was:
We fixed the issue causing a small percentage of PCs to fail to update to recent builds due to a corrupt registry key.
I have been testing the insider builds on 3 systems. A Surface Book i5, an ASUS Edge 2-in-1 laptop and an older ASUS CM desktop system with an earlier version of the i7. The ASUS CM system has refused to update to any build of Windows on the insider program since around Build 14383. Each update attempt has been met with a system freeze, a forced restart then reaching 88% completion, freezing again then an automatic system rollback.
Sadly the fixed issue above did not address this system. I have checked the error logs and cannot find any reason for the failure that I could address and have went as far as removing all devices, programs, etc… to see what the issue could be. But so far have come up with nothing. A forum post here appears to possibly address this issue https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/install-of-15042-reboots-at-71-to-15031/a640c8f4-b93c-46fb-9aee-4d302f00eadf. I will try to uninstall drivers and the Geforce program for my Nvidia GT 620 too see if that is afffecting the update. After that …
Anyone else experiencing this issue on the Insider Program – would appreciate any input at all as to what could be causing the issue or have I run into a problem where these later builds will no longer be compatible with the existing hardware in this tower.
